3/17/2020: Read and discussed book about sharing and taking turns. Benefits to taking turns, how it makes us and others feel when we don't take turns, and how we can respond when someone tells us "No" when we ask for a turn or something to share.
3/3/2020: Introduced "Cocoa Breathing", a technique in which you pretend to hold a cup of hot cocoa, breath in through your nose to smell the hot coco and then exhale through your mouth to blow the steam off the hot cocoa. This is another breathing technique to help regulate the students feelings. Discussed talking about feelings with a trusted adult and how talking to someone about your feelings can be helpful in making you feeling better. Students identified some trusted adults in their lives.
2/25/2020: Worked on identification of feelings with body language, facial expressions, and also feelings we have in our body that tell us how we feel such as fast heart rate, body temperature, shaking, etc.
1/24/2020: Continued to work on identifying feelings in others and how to support others when they are having negative feelings.
1/14/2020: Continued to work on empathy and identify how others feel by reading a story and discussing the story. Discussed actions when people are angry and how anger is not a bad thing, what we do with our anger makes it good or bad. Discussed some positive things we can do with our anger such as talk to an adult, breath, walk away, choose to play something else.
1/7/2020: Reviewed group rules and expectations. Introduced the concept of empathy which is the ability to understand and share feelings of another.
12/10/2019: Continued the book "Join in and Play". Discussed times the students have asked others to play and how they did that. Introduced the skill of "Joining in" (steps listed below), modeled skill and then had students do role plays practicing skills. Coached student during and after role plays on their use of the skill.

11/26/2019: Continued the book "Join in and Play". Identified people who they could ask to help them if they were having trouble joining in with others. Explorer times when students have asked others to play, the responses they have gotten, and the feelings associated when others answer with a "yes" and a "No". Reviewed how to respond when other say "no" (Say "okay" and try again later)
11/19/2019: Read the book "Join in and Play". Discussed the skill of joining in and playing with others. Discussed how it felt when others said: "no" and how to respond to others who say "no" (say "okay" and try again later). Discussed why it is important to say "okay" rather than showing anger or sadness when others say "no".
11/12/2019: Continued to work on coping skills. Introduced "6 sided breathing" skill. Modeled, coached, and practiced skill. Discussed when a good time would be to use the skill. Student came up with when they are feeling mad, upset, excited and sad.
10/29/2019: Discussed coping skills and what they are, times to use them and different coping skills the student have used in the past to calm themselves down. The students identified taking a deep breath, taking a break, getting a drink of water, and going for a walk as coping skills they have used in the past.
